Cooper's Rock Mountain Lion Sanctuary

Mountain Lion Sanctuary Tour

Mark and Sheila Jenkins wanted to make life a little better for America's Cat, the mountain lion. Their plan was simple: they would provide a home for captive cougars that could not be released to the wild. This sanctuary would be a permanent home for these cats, a place where they could live out their lives peacefully, without fear of abuse or neglect.

Cooper's Rock Mountain Lion Sanctuary is currently home for four cougars. Each one has a short webpage that will introduce the cat to you. In order of arrival, these cougars are:

Burton
Tecumseh
Mariah
Carrie
Montana
Jackson

To care for these cougars, sanctuary volunteers maintain several facilities:

Original Enclosure
Second Enclosure
Emergency Enclosure
"The Palace" enclosure
"The Hillside" enclosure
Perimeter Fence
Cougar Run Bridge

Without the volunteers who help us purchase and maintain these facilities, our four cougars literally would have no place to go. Without the human generosity that makes it possible for us to accept and care for our cougars, they likely would have died by now. The sanctuary stands in defiance of those who claim the individual can do nothing to better the world -- it exists solely because of the efforts of individuals who do what they can for the greater good. These cougars have been saved because of individuals who chose to contribute rather than complain -- and as these cougars touch the lives of the next generation, we can hope that the next generation finds far fewer cougars who need to be saved. We are all grateful that you have taken the time to visit our site. Thank you, and enjoy the tour.
