Cooper's Rock Mountain Lion Sanctuary

Mountain Lion Sanctuary Tour: Original Enclosure

Cooper's Rock Mountain Lion Sanctuary started with the Original Enclosure in 1998. It was 16 feet square at that time, but the sanctuary expanded it to 16 feet by 32 feet in July 1999. It is a wood frame with wire mesh walls, and includes a stone weather shelter.

Burton originally lived here; he moved to the Second Enclosure in 1999, when Tecumseh took over the newly-expanded enclosure. Then in 2002, the sanctuary prepared The Palace for the very-active Tecumseh, and Mariah moved from the Emergency Enclosure to this one in August of that year. This makes the Original Enclosure the only one on the sanctuary to house three different cougars.
